Newly elected State Deputy WAYNE A. CLEMMER of the Oregon State Council of Knights of Columbus, from McMinnville Oregon, met with eleven (11) Past State Deputies at St. Edwards Parish in Keiser to discuss ways to aid the Archdiocese of Portland and the Diocese of Baker in prompting anti-abortion programs and Catholic doctrine in the state by building a stronger membership base of the Order of Knights of Columbus in all Oregon parishes. Overall membership in the Order currently exceeds 1.8 million Roman Catholic men, Priest, Bishops and Cardinals.
The meeting included new State Officers, Dennis J. White (St. Helens); Patrick L. Rice, (Newberg); David D. Denton (Springfield); Robert J. Kish, Jr. (Corvallis) and Norris E. Hibbler (Portland).

Past State Deputies of Oregon attending included (left to right): Kim Oey; Dennis White; Robert Kligel; Dominic Worsowicz; Joe Gibney; Bill Kast; Jim Gay; Mike Adams; Matt Wagner; Paul Bousquet; and Jerry Brunelle.
The Knights of Columbus of Oregon participated in
a North American effort paying special tribute to Our Lady of Guadalupe,
Patroness of the Americas through the Silver Rose Program. This program
involves running a Silver Rose from British Columbia, Canada through the United
States to Monterrey, Mexico.
The program began in Oregon during April when the Washington State Deputy passed the Rose onto the Oregon Deputy as it started its run through Oregon. It remained in Oregon until 4 July 2009 and then was passed onto the California knights. It was passed around Oregon and each council that participated was able to keep the Silver Rose for a few days where a mass was constructed around the rose. Its last stop in Oregon was at Our Lady of the Mountain in Ashland, Oregon. A Spanish mass was held in its honor on the 4th of July before being passed onto the California representative.
“Through the Silver Rose Program the Knights of
Oregon showed support for the church and its bishops and priests as they prayed
for the continued strength to do so in these trouble times. The Sliver Rose
also symbolizes the knights’ commitment to restore respect for the sanctity of
human life from conception until natural death. As we think in terms of ‘One
Life, One Rose,” it is most appropriate that we turn to Our Lady of Guadalupe
who made known her will through Juan Diego and the miracle of the roses,” said
Wayne Clemmer, state deputy, chief executive of the Knights of Columbus in
Oregon.
